Current Openings at MDT
The Information Services Division (ISD) provides a full range of services for the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT). The division plans and sets policies, and coordinates, designs, installs and maintains the department's information technology infrastructure. This includes network management, server systems administration, desk top and mobile computer systems administration, database administration, applications development and maintenance, integrated systems development, Internet and Intranet web page developments, data security & disaster recovery services, geographic information systems (GIS), global positioning systems (GPS), roadway information collection, user support, training, imaging services, duplication services, IT research and development, budget development and monitoring, procurement administration, contract administration, and project management.

Computer Support Technicians and Specialists
The Computer Support team provides tier one support for applications including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation graphics, e-mail, and computer file management. The team also provides support for a variety of hardware, software, and operating systems. This unit is responsible for the configuration, receiving, and installation of new computer equipment. The group also performs preliminary evaluation on the condition of equipment to identify problems, coordinates warranty work and other repair of equipment with vendors, and performs minor installations and repairs.
Computer Programmers and Systems Analysts
Computer Programmers and Systems Analysts develop, maintain, and update applications in support of the department’s mission. Activities include systems analysis and design, programming, project management, testing, training, and documenting internal applications and maintaining and updating third party applications.
Data Control Specialists
The Data Control Specialist obtains, organizes, and ensures entry and updating of data in GIS systems, develops and manages processes to ensure currency and accuracy of GIS data, assists department personnel in effectively using GIS tools, researches developments in GIS software, hardware, and other equipment to recommend upgrades or system replacements, and ensures available data and tools meet the needs of end users.
Records Specialists
Records Specialists are responsible for planning, managing and securing information resources for the agency. This group will provide efficient storage and maintenance of information and will promote fast, efficient and secure access to the information. This includes hardcopy business record storage and retrieval as well as electronic document and data management solutions. In addition, this group will provide disaster recovery planning and business resumption services for the agency.
Network and Computer Systems Administrators and Analysts
Network and Computer Systems Administrators and Analysts are responsible for professional information systems work related to network and user support services provided by the Information Services Bureau. Duties include implementing PC networking and administering NT networks; NT and VAX/VMS server installation, performance tuning, and monitoring; ensuring the proper backup, archival, disaster recovery, and security of networks and servers, workstations, and networked PCs; planning, designing, developing and providing technical support on Internet web pages; installing, configuring, and maintaining print services for users; wide area network analysis, coordination, planning, and troubleshooting; and other system testing, development, and implementation work.
Database Administrators
Database Administrators perform professional level information systems work in the installation, enhancement and maintenance of highly technical computer software. This position also supports Applications Section personnel in the use and development of computer systems, networks and applications.
