Veterans
MDT joins with the state of Montana in recognizing the contribution veterans have made and the valuable skills they have acquired during active duty. In compliance with the state's Veterans' Employment Preference statute, we provide preference in employment to veterans, disabled veterans, and eligible relatives.
To claim the Veterans' Employment Preference, applicants must complete the Employee Preference portion of the online application.

Enlisted Persons
The Montana Military Service Employment Rights Act (MMSERA), passed by the 2005 Montana Legislature, significantly changed the rights of employees in the state of Montana who are members of the militia. Much of the Act deals with employees' reemployment rights when they return from military duty.
Employees of the state of Montana, or a Montana city, town or county, who are also members of the U.S. Armed Serviceseither active or military reservists or members of the Montana National Guardbecome eligible for paid military leave after six continuous months of employment.
