Coming Soon - MDT is currently working with Amtrak to complete the analysis of passenger rail along the southern route in a two tier approach. The Amtrak analysis will be posted as a separate document for public review when completed and incorporated into the final Rail Plan report.
Tier 1 consists of feasibility information (capital and operating costs, ridership and revenue) for roundtrip passenger rail service from
Billings to Missoula along routes operated by Montana Rail Link, through Bozeman, Livingston and Helena.
Tier 2 consists of capital cost estimates for implementing roundtrip passenger rail service from Williston North Dakota to Sandpoint Idaho,
along the routes operated by the Yellowstone Valley Railroad, BNSF, and Montana Rail Link.
