Community Transportation Safety Planning

The goal of this new program is to enable communities to identify, analyze, address and track their specific transportation safety issues and reduce the number and severity of fatal and incapacitating injuries on Montana’s roads and streets.

Study Proposal
Interested communities must submit a written proposal for assistance signed by Mayor /Commission chair and the sponsoring city department. This request needs to include a problem statement that provides a description of the perceived safety issues (may include crash data) and a description of how this plan will benefit the community and local government. Supporting documentation of community interest and commitment of participation should also be included.

Study Sponsorship
The local government submitting a safety plan proposal is considered the sponsor and must coordinates the safety plan development; ensure coordination and consistency with other local plans; secure commitments from other necessary entities to implement a safety plan; obtain formal adoption of safety plan; and monitor, track, and report plan implementation to MDT.
