Young Drivers

In Montana in 2008, drivers under the age of 21 experienced 115 crashes per 1,000 licenses and 0.62 fatal crashes per 1,000 licenses. Graduated Drivers Licensing (GDL) requirements for new drivers went into effect July 1, 2006, which requires seatbelt use, limit the hours of unsupervised driving, and restricts the number and age of non-family passengers. It is expected that the GDL program will reduce these rates.
